Felt by Design

Learn to create felt with the qualities you want!

Are you getting the kind of felt you actually need?
Sometimes the difference between a soft, drapable felt and a dense, stable one comes down to something really simple.
But how do you know which factors will give you the qualities you're looking for?
Enroll today!

Do you struggle with any of these issues?

  • Not knowing whether your felt is finished or not.
  • Not knowing how much wool to use for the different objects you want to felt.
  • Not being able to lay out fine enough for how you want your felt to behave (for example for wearables).
  • Making a fine layout and then getting holes in the felt.
  • Making your felt too stiff because of over-fulling.
  • Creating a felt that pills because of under-fulling.

If any of this resonates, this training is for you!

What will you get from this training?

By the end of this training, you’ll have a better understanding of how you can get the exact characteristics you’re looking for in a felt.

You’ll also have a collection of samples that you can keep as a reference. You’ll be able to come back to them any time you want to make a decision about how much wool you need for a project and exactly how much you need to felt it.

The principles you'll explore in Felt by Design also open up new possibilities for sculptural felt, where understanding how wool behaves allows you to create volume and shape in the material itself.

Kind words...

Felt by Design - Training Overview

Felt by Design is a one-week online wet felting training, designed for beginners with basic wet felting skills and more experienced felt makers who want greater control over the qualities of their felt.

The training covers:

  • How wool quantity affects the thickness, density, softness and drape of felt.
  • How to understand and evaluate felt shrinkage.
  • How to determine when felt is sufficiently fulled.
  • How to avoid common problems such as holes, excessive stiffness and pilling.
  • How to make informed decisions about wool quantities and fulling according to the intended use of the finished felt.

Participants will create nine comparative felt samples to build a practical reference collection for future projects.

The training includes 26 lessons (approximately 1.5 hours of video in total), two live sessions, practical felting exercises, a community area and support throughout the training week. Training materials remain available for 30 days.

The aim is to help wet felt makers understand how to control the characteristics of their felt, make more informed technical decisions and become more confident and independent in their practice.
