It all began 25 years ago on a cold Sunday morning in Berlin. I was wandering through the city, when something unusual in a shop window caught my attention: sculptural hats that seem to defy the rules of textiles. Not knitted or sewn, but something completely different.

The image stayed with me for weeks, and, soon after, I found other similar handmade pieces: soft, delicate, and mysterious textiles that seemed part fabric, part sculpture. This took me on a journey of discovery. There weren’t many resources back then, but I gathered what I could find in terms of wool and books, and I started experimenting.

In 2006, my work was selling in crafts markets and designer shops in Lisbon and, shortly after that, I started teaching workshops in schools and galleries.

But it was only in 2016, after a 20-year career as a translator, that I decided it was time to turn felting into my new career. Still, I balanced felting and translating for another 4 years, until COVID gave me the ‘it’s-now-or-never’ push that turned me into a full-time wet felting educator.

My Approach

My teaching is rooted in depth and clarity, as well as curiosity and exploration. Over the years, many students have told me that I make things clear and easy to follow, because I help them understand the why, not just the how.

As a self-taught felter, I know how difficult it can be to learn on your own. With 15 years of teaching experience, I know the challenges you face in the various stages. Plus, I went through them as well.

I believe technique and creativity go together. The more you understand the craft, the more freely you can explore your voice. And this is ultimately where I’d love to have the privilege to lead you: to discover your own unique voice.

I can't wait to have you join us and to help you in your journey towards becoming a more confident and independent felt maker.
